GPSR Compliance

The problem

The EU General Product Safety Regulation requires an online store to show shoppers who manufactured a product and who to contact within the EU about it, before they buy, not buried in a shipping confirmation after the fact. For a Magento catalog with more than a handful of products, meeting that requirement by hand, one product at a time, quickly becomes the kind of task nobody finishes.

How it works

This extension adds the fields GPSR actually asks for directly to the product: manufacturer name and address, and a separate EU Responsible Person with their own name, address and contact email. It then displays them on the product page as a dedicated tab before checkout, exactly where the regulation expects a shopper to find them.

Store wide defaults

Most catalogs share a small number of manufacturers or responsible persons across many products, so re-entering the same details hundreds of times would defeat the point of a compliance tool. A store wide default can be set once, and any product left blank falls back to it automatically, both on the storefront tab and in the compliance dashboard. A product's own entry always takes priority, so setting a default never silently overwrites something a merchandiser already typed in for a specific item.

Finding and closing gaps

Getting a catalog compliant is one problem, knowing it stayed compliant as new products get added is another:

• The compliance dashboard shows exactly which products are missing required fields
• Bulk assignment then closes those gaps across many products in one action, rather than opening each product individually

Per store control

Not every store needs the storefront tab visible everywhere. A merchant selling only outside the EU, or running separate store views for different markets, can turn the tab on or off per store, keeping the compliance data on the product record either way for reporting and export.
